Evan Bartels was born and raised in Tobias, Nebraska—a remote town of roughly 100 people on a lone stretch of prairie highway where the wide-open freedom and quiet longing of the landscape forged the ethos behind his songwriting. Since the release of his self-produced debut, The Devil, God, & Me (2017), Bartels’ beautifully poignant writing has earned him a devoted worldwide audience, multiple song features on Netflix’s The Ranch, and features from comedians and podcasters such as Theo Von.
Making its vinyl debut, the 2021 album Lonesome, crafted with producer Ryan Hewitt, propelled Bartels onto international stages and deepened his standing as a compelling storyteller. Often recording in his handmade cabin outside Nashville, Bartels continues to create cinematic, emotionally raw narratives that explore the sacrifices and spirituality of a working musician, and deliver the kind of evocative, soul-stirring performances that move listeners.
Evan Bartels is a very recent Vinyl Moon alumni, and his song "El Camino" was featured on Vol. 124: Mind Over Memory.
